Hat-Trick for Firminho and a Goal Each for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as Liverpool Hammers Watford 5-0

Hat-Trick for Firminho and a Goal Each for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as Liverpool Hammers Watford 5-0

Liverpool have proven yet again how great they are after a hat-trick for Firminho and a goal each for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as they hammered Watford 5-0 in Vicarage Road. The game was Watford’s first under Claudio Ranieri. Saturday’s game was a thrill to watch as Liverpool’s strikers opened up Watford’s defense time and again to cement their leadership in the league. Jurgen Klopp has shown yet again why he is one of the best managers, if not the best manager in football. He had this week been complaining about football associations and leagues not catering enough to players’ welfare. However, today’s win was yet another impressive show of his and Liverpool’s grit and prowess. He lauded Mo’ Salah’s mastery of the game, saying that he was one of the top players in football and English football at the moment.

Firminho: Liverpool’s Long Inactivated Soldier

Firminho has always been Liverpool’s somewhat inactivated soldier and his hat-trick today reminds us of his potential. He is a Brazilian forward who will not only have an immense impact in Liverpool but also in his national team, Brazil. Sadio Mane, on the other hand, is a fully active soldier in every game and no game is really good if he hasn’t seen the back of the net. Mohamed Salah is, without saying, the ace in Klopp’s hands, and his quality is just on another level. He is undoubtedly in his prime and with him at the front, this season of the EPL and even the UEFA Champions League are Liverpool’s to lose.

Salah Helps Make Sadio Mane a Centurion

Mohamed Salah was touted as the best football player in the world, at the moment, by his coach Jurgen Klopp. Klopp said that Salah is at the top of that list following an incredible performance on Saturday. Salah scored one of the five goals in their 5-0 win against Watford and assisted Sadio Mane’s goal. Salah’s goal was phenomenal as was his assist that helped make Sadio Mane a centurion. The goal was Mane’s 100th goal in the English Premier League. The quality of Salah is beyond doubt and he is at what one may argue is his prime. We certainly wouldn’t be surprised if he won the Balon d’Or this year or next year.

An Intense EPL 2021-22 Season: Stiff Competition at the Top of the EPL Table

The 2021/22 season of the English Premier League is looking to intensify with heated competition at the top of the league table. As things stand, Chelsea are on top of the EPL standings with 19 points, followed by Liverpool that are second with 18 points. Manchester City are third with 17 points, with Brighton fourth with 15 points. Manchester United has fallen to fifth place with 14 points, after losing 4-2 to Leicester City. Man United is currently at what we would call a transition point as the squad adjusts to its new star power with the recent signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the team could be curtailed by the insistence and persistence of its leadership to keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the manager. It is no surprise, therefore, that #OleOut has been trending in recent weeks and some would argue, months. Should Manchester United Sack their Manager? Let us know in the comments.

EPL Matchweek 8 Results: Man City and Chelsea Fall Below Expectations

In other matchweek 8 games on Saturday, Wolves beat Aston Villa 3-2, Manchester City beat Burnley 2-0, while Norwich drew 0-0 with Brighton. Southampton came from behind to beat Leeds 1-0 similar to Chelsea who beat Brentford 1-0. Man City and Chelsea’s performance were somewhat dismal as fans expected Man City to clamor Burnley at least 4 or 5 goals. Chelsea, on the other hand, was expected to do a better job against Brentford. The 1-0 result, however, is another indicator that Brentford really deserved their promotion to the EPL and are a team to look out for. On Sunday, West Ham beat Everton 1-0 and Spurs beat Newcastle 3-2. Harry Kane scored his first goal of the season during the game and assisted Son Heung-Min’s goal. Monday’s game between Arsenal and Crystal Palace ended in a 2-2 draw.

Newcastle United’s New Owners and The Impact of the Sale on the Team’s Quality of Play

The weeks leading up to gameweek 8 have been quite eventful, with an international break and the recent purchase of Newcastle United by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, its new Arab owners, and Avanda Staveley, a former model. In the words of Jurgen Klopp, Newcastle is set to become a ‘superpower’ in English football as it will now have the finances to invest in its squad, their training, and improving their quality of play. However, as Klopp attested, it will take time for the club to feel the impact of the new owners in terms of its quality and results. All teams need adequate time and investment to improve their game and we are excited to see what the new backing does for Newcastle United.

James Ward-Prowse Sent Off as Chelsea Come from Behind to Beat Southampton 3-1

James Ward-Prowse Sent Off as Chelsea Come from Behind to Beat Southampton 3-1

In an entertaining match on Saturday, James Ward-Prowse was sent off after a foul on Jorginho, minutes after scoring for Southampton in their game against Chelsea. James Ward-Prowse, Southampton’s captain, was sent off in what is his second red card in his professional career. He aggressively fouled Jorginho, leading to him being shown a red card and sent off the pitch. Today’s game against Chelsea was one where Video Assistant Referee, VAR, played a major role, denying Chelsea two goals, one from Romelu Lukaku and the other from Timo Werner. Chelsea were relentless and despite being denied the two goals came from behind to beat Southampton 3-1.

Chelsea’s Comeback after Back-to-Back Losses

After two losses, one to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League and another from Manchester City in the EPL, Chelsea showed why they are major title contenders for both leagues in their stunning display against Southampton in Stamford Bridge. The game started with an energetic Chelsea who showed great skill and prowess leading to them scoring three goals in the first half, two of which were denied. Trevoh Chalobah opened the scoreboard in the ninth minute for Chelsea, followed by Lukaku’s goal that was denied as he was offside. Chelsea’s Timo Werner then went on to score, a goal that was later also denied after a VAR checked that showed that Cesar Azpilicueta had fouled Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters moments before the goal.

Ben Chilwell: From Villain to Hero and Vice Versa for Ward-Prowse

In a dramatic twist of events, Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell’s dangerous tackle in the goal box saw a penalty decision handed against Chelsea. Southampton’s captain James Ward-Prowse took the penalty and converted it to equalize for Southampton in the 61st minute. In the 77th minute, he was handed a red card and sent off after fouling Jorginho.

James Ward-Prowse is a phenomenal player and his red card and consequent 3 game suspension will have a negative impact on the team. James Ward-Prowse was Sent Off.

Chelsea, now with a one-man advantage went on to score two phenomenal goals, one from Timo Werner in the 84th minute, and another from Chilwell in the 89th minute. Chilwell’s goal was a strong shot after two misses by Azpilicueta and Lukaku, including a shot that hit the post. He redeemed himself after his challenge that led to the penalty against Chelsea, much to the delight of the club’s fans.

Timo Werner’s Comeback

In his first goal this season for Chelsea in the EPL, Timo Werner made a beautiful conversion after a stunning cross from Azpilicueta. Chelsea took a turn for the better after substitutes Ross Barkley and Mason Mount were brought on. In his second touch, Barkley was able to make a beautiful pass to Azpilicueta that went on to Werner leading to the goal. Mason Mount, on the other hand, created a chance for Ben Chilwell, who failed to convert the cross. Thomas Tuchel showed great mastery of the tactical side of things by bringing on the two, despite being yellow-carded himself for a protest after the VAR denial of Werner’s goal. Tuchel has a team that could win both the EPL and UCL and we are excited to see what Chelsea can produce in both leagues.

Timo Werner made an impressive performance scoring two goals, one of which was denied thanks to VAR.
Timo Werner made an impressive performance scoring two goals, one of which was denied thanks to VAR.

Tactical Tuchel

Tuchel’s protest and his numerous reactions showed his passion for the game and he may just be the man to inspire Chelsea to greatness. His bench included stars, giving him the chance to up the ante in the game, a privilege that not many coaches share. Despite back-to-back losses at Juventus and Man City, he showed that Chelsea have the quality and capability to really bring the heat this season. The team feels like a young fresh team and to be honest, they have both leagues to lose.

Chelsea Now Top of the EPL Table

Saturday’s game propelled Chelsea to the top of the league with 16 points, followed by Liverpool and Manchester United both with 14 points. Manchester United drew Everton 1-1 as Norwich drew Burnley 0-0. In other Saturday games, Leeds beat Watford 1-0, Wolves beat Newcastle 2-1, and Arsenal drew Brighton 0-0. Manchester United are suffering a sort of star-struck with an average performance in the last few games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seen to be still struggling. His dismal performance has prompted Man United fans to ask for him to be sacked and for the issue to be done with once and for all. What are your thoughts, should Manchester United sack their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

UEFA Champions League Group Stage Match Day 2 Results Barcelona Continue on Downward Spiral

Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage saw Liverpool beat Porto 5-1 in a strong display of form. Other matches played on the 28th of September saw Club Brugge beat RB Leipzig 2-1, PSG beat Manchester City 2-0, Dortmund beat Sporting 1-0, and Real Madrid were beaten by Sheriff 2-1. In other matches, Atletico Madrid beat AC Milan 2-1 while Ajax beat Besiktas 2-1. Inter Milan, on its part, drew 0-0 with Shakhtar Donetsk. In a disappointing Champions League start, Barcelona continued on a downward spiral after losing 3-0 to Benfica this week.

Big Clubs Upended as Stars Shine

In matches played on the 29th of September, RB Salzburg beat Lille 2-1 and Wolfsburg drew Sevilla 1-1. Zenit beat Malmo 4-0 as Atalanta beat Young Boys 1-0. The UEFA Champions League matchday 2 was an upset for the biggest clubs in the league as they saw a week where most of them were upended. Defending Champions, Chelsea, were beaten 1-0 by Juventus, Man City beaten 2-0 by PSG, and Real Madrid beaten by Sheriff 2-1. Lionel Messi scored a beautiful goal in PSG’s 2-0 win against Man City, which was also his maiden goal for the club and his first in the UCL for Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona Still on a Downward Spiral as CR7 Saves Man United

Barcelona had an even worse time in the UCL this week as they got hammered 3-0 by Benfica, continuing their downward spiral. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, was one of the big teams that showed its prowess after trampling Dynamo Kyiv 5-0.  Manchester United also did quite well after Cristiano broke the tie with Villareal, seeing the match end 2-1 in favor of Man United. Bayern have been phenomenal so far and at this rate will give Chelsea a run for their money. The question, however, remains: who will win the Champions League 2021-22?

Barca manager Koeman is on Borrowed Time

Juventus has had an incredible run both at home and at the UCL after they beat Sampdoria 3-2 days before beating title defenders Chelsea 1-0. Even more impressive were Benfica who beat Barcelona 3-0. The poor performance from Barca prompted rumors of Ronald Koeman’s dismissal as Barcelona’s manager. He is on borrowed time, and it was revealed that Barca’s president, Joan Laporta, is already looking for a replacement.

Koeman is under immense pressure to overturn Barcelona’s current dismal performance after Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann were transferred away from Barca. The team will play Atletico Madrid today in La Liga, seeing it go head to head with a club where two of its former players Luis Suarez and Griezmann are currently playing. Today’s game could be the last nail in the coffin for Koeman, as a loss could mean that it is beyond doubt that he will be sacked. Barcelona have since lost the game 2-0 to Atletico Madrid, further casting doubt on whether Koeman will remain at the club. Suarez scored one of the two goals.

Possible Replacements for Ronald Koeman

Among those rumored to be possible replacements for Koeman include Xavi Hernandez, former Juve coach Andrea Pirlo, and Belgium coach Roberto Martinez. Martinez has, however, revealed that he is currently not in talks with the club. As such, Xavi Hernandez is the most likely candidate to replace Koeman, as Andrea Pirlo, a former manager at Juventus, lacks the prowess to really steer Barcelona out of its current rough patch. Pirlo was sacked at Juventus after only a single season as the club’s manager.

Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala Becomes World’s Eighth Fastest Man

Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala Becomes World’s Eighth Fastest Man and the Eighth Fastest in History

Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala stunned the world after becoming the world’s eighth fastest man and the eighth fastest in history, after running a time of 9.77 in the Men’s 100M. The stunning run came in the Kip Keino Classic, the final stop of the 2021 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series, held last weekend in Nairobi Kenya. Omanyala came second after Trayvon Bromell who ran 9.76, beating renowned 100M runners such as Justin Gatlin, who ran 10.03.

Despite a rocky Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Trayvon Bromell became the fastest man in 2021 after a stellar display in the Kip Keino Classic.
Despite a rocky Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Trayvon Bromell became the fastest man in 2021 after a stellar display in the Kip Keino Classic.

Bromell ran the fastest time of 2021 so far, while Gatlin has announced that he is holding off retirement. Ferdinand Omanayala became the first Kenyan and first African to run that fast in the Men’s 100M. He broke South African Akani Simbine’s African record of 9.84. Omanyala has done so remarkably well and put Kenya on the map in short races, something that has eluded Kenyan runners and Kenya in athletics.

Ferdinand Omanyala’s Story: From Rugby to Athletics

Ferdinand Omanyala did such a good job in the Kip Keino Classic recording the official time of 9.77. He has been amicably rewarded so far, receiving a brand-new car from his sponsors, a betting firm in Kenya. Omanyala’s running career started while he was in Kamusinga High School where he started playing rugby. He is an avid lover of rugby and even continued playing on enrolling at the University of Nairobi.

“There is no limit to greatness. There is no limit to breaking that record.” – Ferdinand Omanyala.

A few years in, Ferdinand chose to venture into running, after a friend recommended that he try athletics. He then went on to sign up for athletics competitions in Kenya, culminating in his qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Omanyala, however, lost in the heats and did not get to the 100M Men’s finals after being beaten to the chase by the fastest three losers of the heats, who got the opportunity to go to the finals.

Inspiring Kenya in the Short Races the Omanyala Way

Omanyala did not lose hope and continued racing, seeing him become the world’s eighth fastest man. His story has inspired so many Kenyan runners in the short races, showing that Kenyans have the capability to do well in the short races. Ferdinand Omanyala ran a time of 9.86 in Austria, a feat that shocked him and gave him that much more motivation to do more. He has come a long way, facing accusations of doping, now debunked, and even having been denied a chance to run in the Diamond League. Officials had refused him a chance due to disbelief with the perception that Kenyans cannot do well in the short races.

Ferdinand Omanyala has reopened the Pandora's box for Kenya in the short races. As the eighth fastest man in history, a lot rests on his shoulders.

Ferdinand has vowed that his 9.77 African record will not last a year, saying that he will “break it”. He trains 9 hours a day, Monday to Saturday, for three sessions of 3 hours each. Ferdinand is now looking forward to the Commonwealth Games and the Diamond League Series, not forgetting the championships. We wish him the very best!

Gameweek 5 of the English Premier League was nothing short of entertainment. Manchester City showed a lot of lethargy, drawing 0-0 with Southampton. Pep Guardiola’s side lost their momentum and even with strong substitutions such as Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez coming in, failed to beat a seemingly improved Southampton.

Chelsea, on the other hand, walked over Tottenham, beating them 3-0. Lukaku’s comeback has seemingly reinvigorated the club and we can’t wait to see what he does for the club.

CR7 A Shot in the Arm for Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback was nothing short of a team morale booster for Manchester United who beat West Ham 2-1. CR7’s return to the club has seen the club become highly motivated and has provided the spirit of winning that Ronaldo is known for. Man United have this season to lose and we hope that the team will not letdown Cristiano and its fans. On the other hand, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer seems to be enjoying decreasing questions on his future at the club, all thanks to his former Man United teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Liverpool’s Game Plan

Liverpool showed once again how organized they are after beating Crystal Palace 3-0 on Gameweek 5 of the EPL. Of all the teams in the EPL this season, Liverpool seem to be the only team following a set and strict game plan. This is so much so that their manager, Jurgen Klopp is sometimes seen to be angered after they score a goal but do it in a way that is not according to his game plan. Liverpool are among the favorites for the English Premier League title this season, and we can’t wait to see what Man City, Chelsea, and Man United have in reply to their bid.

Arsenal Showing Revival

A seemingly reviving Arsenal followed up their win last week with a 1-0 victory over Burnley. Two wins in a row is a good thing for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s boys may just get a much-needed morale boost from the win. Arsenal’s confidence had been waning, after back-to-back losses in the EPL opener. They may however lack the oomph to get all the way to the league title but are no doubt a contender for the top four.

Leicester City Upended

Leicester City suffered a blow after losing 2-1 to Brighton, in a match that saw them shockingly upended. Leicester are a strong team but lack the star power to really be amazing. Even so, they have dependable players such as Jamie Vardy, who have inspired the club enough before, to see them contend for the league title.

Brentford’s Second Shocking Victory

In other matches, Newcastle drew 1-1 with Leeds United as Aston Villa hammered Everton 3-0. In a shocking victory, 10-man Brentford beat Wolves 2-0, showing that they were very deserving of promotion to the premier league. Watford came from behind to thrash Norwich City 3-1, continuing Norwich City’s poor campaign so far.
