Dustin Johnson Takes Home The Masters Title at Augusta

Dustin Johnson won The Masters title with a 20 under par score, cementing his place in the all-time greats. Dustin Johnson had an incredible tour at Augusta National Golf Club and is set to make history in the coming tournaments. Dustin Johnson (pictured above) has had an incredible run and has won a PGA Tour title in each of his first thirteen games, a feat only achieved by Tiger Woods (also pictured above) and Jack Nicklaus. He has also become the first player to win each of the four World Golf Championship Events. This year’s Masters was the 84th and one played at the end of the year instead of the normal period around April.

What We'll Discuss On This Article: Hide

Dustin Johnson showed a superb mastery of golf by breaking the record with his 20 under par win. He also won the title by five strokes, a feat only outdone by Tiger Woods who won the title in ’97 by 12 strokes. Johnson was followed by Sungjae Im and Cameron Smith and his win was only his second major win, following a U.S Open Title win. Johnson’s win was also his 24th PGA Tour win. At only 36, Dustin Johnson’s win is expected to trigger many more wins as he has shown a level of play that is simply unmatched. He has the opportunity and skill to etch his name in the all-time greats and was in tears after winning the green jacket. The green jacket is only awarded to those who have won The Master’s title and is a coveted prize in golf

Superb Performance

As we saw in the Dubai Moonlight Classic, winning under par is a good performance. However, winning by 20 under par is just mind-boggling. It means that Johnson won by 20 strokes less than the 72 it would take an average professional player to win in the Augusta course. That is just amazing and his win is quite an insurmountable feat. He broke the record for the lowest par in The Masters and also came second in winning by most strokes. The Masters Tournament is one of the four major championships in golf, along with the PGA Championship, the U.S Open, and The Open Championship. This year’s Masters was postponed due to COVID-19, and some players were seen to cope poorly with the circumstances. Dustin Johnson, however, was seen to cope very well and had kept his composure throughout the year and the season.
