The English Premier League (EPL) is back and it’s back with a bang. The league is not only back but has also allowed fans in the stadiums after a long bout of their absence due to COVID-19. The EPL is set to be a spectacle this season as it comes at a time when the league is as competitive as ever. The Premier League introduced a new entrant, Brentford, alias ‘The Bees’. We think that is ‘Beeyoutiful’, to say the least. It is always good to see new teams get out of the divisions and bring competition to the EPL. The EPL is currently in the second week with a resounding 5-0 win by Man City against Norwich. Liverpool beat Burnley 2-0. Aston Villa also beat Newcastle 2-0. Crystal Palace drew with Brentford, and Brighton & Hove Albion beat Watford 2-0 as well.
Manchester City Signs Jack Grealish
Manchester City won the EPL last season, despite losing the UEFA Champions League to Chelsea, and had 3 consecutive losses before today’s win. Man City lost 1-0 to Tottenham in their first game this season but rebounded with a resounding 5-0 win against Norwich City. The team also signed Jack Grealish for a record sum of $139 million or 100 million pounds, making him the most expensive player in EPL history. Grealish scored his first goal in Man City’s game against Norwich. In celebration, he cupped his ears as a sign to wade off critics. He, however, may have a hard time adjusting to Pep Guardiola’s and Manchester City’s style of play and that remains to be seen. Numerous critics are convinced that he lacks the quality needed for Manchester City or one that warrants the high signing fee.
Man City were unable to purchase Lionel Messi, after leaving Barcelona, as PSG made a better bid and also had players that Messi was familiar playing with. These include the likes of Neymar, Sergio Ramos, and Angel di Maria. Despite not being able to attract Messi to the club, probably also because Paris is a better fit for the former Barcelona player, Man City are still in the market for a striker.

Robert Lewandowski Transfer Rumors
There have been rumors that Manchester City may offer a bid to buy Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, even as Pep Guardiola did not want to speculate during a recent press conference. Lewandowski is looking for a “new challenge” and Man City may be just the team he is looking for, or rather, is looking for him.
Manchester City have had quite a rough start to the season after a 1-0 loss to Leicester in the FA Community Shield final, followed by a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur during their EPL Opener in Week 1. Despite this, they are the defending champions and yesterday’s game was a resounding win for them and to be honest, a little flex of the muscle. The quality of Manchester City is unrivaled, as is their big bank account.

Liverpool Keeps Virgil Van Dijk
Liverpool started this season strongly with a 3-0 win against Norwich City and today’s 2-0 win against Burnley. Jurgen Klopp’s team is set to be a major contender this season, especially with rising stars like Diogo Jota who scored in both matches, and the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane. Mohammed Salah made history as the only player to score a goal in five EPL season openers. Liverpool also retained their defense powerhouse Virgil Van Dijk until 2025 and can be somewhat assured that their defense won’t be porous. Nevertheless, the team should really bring their A-game and inspire their players and fans like they did two seasons ago, leading up to their momentous league win.
Brentford F.C Beat Arsenal in Shocker Opener
Brentford FC have been somewhat of a shocker this season. They started the season by whipping Arsenal 2-0, a fantastic Premier League entry, and a game that the fans will hold dear. The team, however, slumped yesterday with a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. The team is full of fervor and could be inspired enough to make a mark on the league this season. Arsenal’s loss in their league opener was a huge disappointment for their fans, including Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Arsenal started last season on a low note, even as they improved as time went by. It is really crucial that they do something or Mikel Arteta and his boys may end up as a team to walk over the entire season.
Bruno Fernandes an Asset for Manchester United
Manchester United were a ball to watch in their first game of the season. The ‘Red Devils’ gave the fans a game to remember with their 5-1 win against Leeds United. The game saw Bruno Fernandes score a hat-trick and Mason Greenwood make his presence felt in the team. Fernandes has continually been an asset for Manchester United.
Manchester United started just as well last season but fell through as the season drew to a close, handing Manchester City the cup. Man United have the potential and the players to mount a strong campaign but again, may lack the fervor to really get the boys fired up and giving their all. Manchester United’s season opener was preceded by social media calls for the team’s manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to be sacked but it seems Ole could stay. At least the 5-1 win was something that ensures that and shows that he still has a card up his sleeve.

Chelsea’s Pulisic to Miss Arsenal Game
Chelsea had a good run last season in the EPL and a wonderful win in the UEFA Champions League. The team started strong this season in the EPL with a 3-0 win against Crystal Palace, an encore to a penalty shootout win against Villarreal to win the UEFA Super Cup early this August. Chelsea are expected to be a contender this season as we have already seen that Thomas Tuchel can be quite the tactician. The team will face Arsenal today, Liverpool on 28th August, and Aston Villa on 11th September. Chelsea may have a hard time beating Liverpool but could seemingly topple Arsenal and Aston Villa. However, if there is one thing we know about football, there is nothing sure. ‘The Blues’ have a strong team, even as their midfielder, Christian Pulisic, has contracted COVID-19 and will miss the game with Arsenal.
We are eager to see what Chelsea have in store this season. Stay tuned and visit our Football Page for the latest results, fixtures, and stats.
