A COVID-Free Sporting Life

We have just had enough of COVID here at Mania Sports. We hate the interruptions COVID-19  has brought to the sporting world and the world at large. It’s been a very trying time for everyone and we have just about had it. Something needs to change and we hope it will very soon.

The Olympics Despite COVID-19

COVID-19 has been particularly nasty for sports. All sports have been affected and most importantly all sportsmen and women have too. The most amazing part is that despite all the struggles, the world was able to pull off the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Beijing is also set to host the Winter Olympics this year. Even so, sports and the world at large are still reeling.

What COVID-19 has Meant for the EPL and Football as a Whole

The English Premier League and football as a whole have had a terrible time. All leagues and football championships and tournaments have had to either be postponed at one point in time or called off altogether in the past two years. The EPL has had a tough two years with teams having to postpone games due to players catching the virus. The league fixtures have become unpredictable and that harms the morale of the players, and therefore their results.

AFCON thus Far

For the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite a stunted start due to the virus, the tournament is now about to get into the semifinals. Today Egypt beat Morocco to secure a spot in the semifinals, against Cameroon.

COVID-19 Vaccinations and The Choice of Players on Whether to Get Vaccinated

Players have had to refuse to attend sports events and competitions in locations that have been adversely affected. Even more worryingly, players who have chosen not to get vaccinated have been refused the chance to compete in certain competitions due to the personal choice they have made.

Novak Djokovic Deported from Australia

Novak Djokovic was deported from Australia after first being detained and consequently denied a chance to play in the Australian Open. The Australian Open is one of Djokovic’s best tournaments and denying him the chance to play is such a shame for the organizers. The choice to get tested is a personal choice and everyone deserves the chance and right to choose.

Rafael Nadal Wins Record 21st Grand Slam

The tournament came to an end today, with Rafael Nadal bagging his record 21st Grand Slam. Nadal beat Russian Daniil Medvedev from two sets down to bag the title. We’ll never know if Djokovic’s denial of the chance to play made it easier for other tennis stars.

Gone Too Soon

COVID-19 has also meant that players, especially veteran players have lost their lives after contracting the virus. We send our deepest condolences to their families, loved ones, and fans. Their time came and we thank them for their contribution to the sporting world.
